John-ShepardIt's easy to call Rockstar's long-awaited Agent project "vaporware." After all, we haven't heard any updates on the title for several years.
However, maybe Rockstar is planning to make a new announcement some time soon. This is thanks to a user in the GTA Forums , who brings up a few interesting points.
Firstly, he notes that the trademark image description – with which we've become quite familiar – has actually been changed just slightly. The original description reads:
"The mark consists of the word 'AGENT' with the shape of a handgun comprising the internal section of the letter 'G'.
And the updated description, which was actually re-filed on July 18:
"The mark consists of the word 'AGENT' with the shape of a handgun comprising the internal section of the letter 'G'. The mark appears over a shaded background."
Okay, so maybe that doesn't mean anything. But it's important to realize that the recently filed trademark has until October 15 for an opposition of publication, so maybe the developers will have something to say before that date. Furthermore, the trademark has actually been updated as recently as September 10 for a publication review, so it's not like Rockstar is ignoring its existence. Someone somewhere is still thinking about it…
At this point, it's probably safe to assume that Agent will be a next-gen project, if it eventually arrives.
