Sony has officially expanded the PlayStation Portal’s capabilities. Starting today, players can stream digital PS5 games they already own directly on the handheld.
Previously, cloud streaming was locked behind PlayStation Plus Premium, meaning only catalog titles were available. With this update, Sony has removed that restriction. Now, if you’ve purchased a digital PS5 game, you can stream it straight to the Portal without needing your console nearby.
Here’s what the update brings:
- Cloud streaming support for owned digital PS5 titles
- No requirement for a local PS5 connection
- Instant access without downloads or updates
- Greater portability with play-anywhere functionality
This marks a significant shift in how the Portal fits into the PlayStation ecosystem. Once seen as a Remote Play accessory, the device now functions as a true cloud gaming handheld. It’s basically a PS5, but portable.
The update is live now. Simply turn on your Portal, and it should download automatically.
