PlayStation 6 Will Offer Detachable Disc Drive At Launch

Sony might be leaning towards offering a detachable disc drive at launch for the PlayStation 6. Yes, a bundle will be offered that comes with the disc drive or it can be purchased later.

Sources speaking to Insider Gaming claim PlayStation is firm on keeping the detachable disc drives around, as they sold well for them, reaching targets. The decision is said to be part of a means to cut costs and shipping during the “uncertain times” we are in, likely talking about the tariffs.

The console is also said to be a simpler design to potentially save on shipping space and weight. Other changes Sony has made to its consoles includes an alleged downgrade of the discless model holding 825GB in the EU.

This change shouldn’t be too shocking, but it is nice to see Sony might not be doing away with physical media entirely come this next gen.

Do you think Sony will offer this disc drive at a fair price? Let us know below!
