Krafton Encourages “Voluntary Resignation” For Employees As It Becomes An “AI-First Company”

Publisher Krafton has been subject to much criticism this year due to their handling of the studio UnknownWorlds Entertainment and their project Subnautica 2.

As reported by Automaton Media, it appears Krafton’s previous endorsements of AI are now in full swing.

In their third quarter for this fiscal year, Krafton reported record-breaking profits. As the company seeks to adopt AI to attempt to maximize profits, now the company has offered a voluntary resignation scheme to employees. This scheme allows employees to claim between six and thirty six months of severance, decided by their years of service.

In justification of this practice, Krafton state that this is not a plan to replace their workforce with AI. Rather, it would seem that Krafton would like to present this as an opportunity for employees to exit the company who might not agree with the adoption of AI and the direction the company is heading in.

“[The voluntary resignation programme is] to support members in proactively designing their growth direction and embarking on new challenges both inside and outside the company amid the era of AI transformation.”

Additionally, Krafton states that employees will have full autonomy as to whether they stay, regardless of rank or experience. However, they have stopped hiring employees, with the sole exception being those working with AI.

So, how do you feel about Krafton focusing on AI? Are voluntary resignation schemes harmful to the industry? Feel free to comment your thoughts below.
