Horizon Steel Frontiers Is Using AI For Coding And Art

The introduction of generative AI has led to many expressing concern about how this might impact game development. People are worried about the problems with AI, such as AI bias and AI hallucinations. However, chief among those concerns are the reduction of jobs and plagiarism. Now, Horizon Steel Frontiers is an upcoming MMORPG set in the Horizon universe, and the title is heavily relying upon AI for its development.

At G-Star 2025, NCSoft producers announced that the game is relying “heavily on AI,” per Tech4Gamers. This includes coding and art. In other words, AI is being used “a lot” in this title. The question remains as to how this will impact both the quality and reception of the title.

With recent announcements by publishers such as Square Enix, EA, and Krafton all adopting AI, it appears the industry is pushing for AI to become a large part of the industry. However, it is surprising that a licensed game from Sony would be supported in using AI so heavily. This does encourage questions as to the future of gaming. Are decisions like these going to affect job stability in the games industry even more? Only time will tell. However, it will ultimately be consumers reactions to this industry shift that will determine whether AI is a temporary trend, or a permanent change.

So, what do you think about the use of AI to develop Horizon: Steel Frontiers? Does this affect whether you will play the game? Feel free to leave a comment below.
