Jason DittonIn curious action RPG news, Sohei Niikawa, creator of the long-running Disgaea franchise, Rhapsody trilogy and La Pucelle: Tactics, amongst other titles, is working with Shin’ichirô Ôtsuka, illustrator for the anime series Re: Zero – Starting Life In Another World, to create Etrange Overload, a new musical ARPG.
The new title, which will be published by Nippon Ichi Software America and is being co-developed by Gemdrops, Inc., developers behind Pico Park 2 and the fantastic Star Ocean The Second Story R, Superniche LLC, Niikawa’s new studio, and BROCCOLI Co., a Japanese media company mostly known, in the gaming sphere, at least, for the Galaxy Angel and Uta no ☆ Prince-sama♪ otome visual novel series. The story and how the game looks to play is largely covered by the trailer below, so this contributor will leave the game to it.
Etrange Overlord doesn’t have an established Western release date quite yet, other than likely sometime in the ball park of the Japan date of March 26, 2026. It’s set to release on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
