Over the past few years, many Call of Duty fans have questioned whether the yearly release schedule might be harming the quality of releases. Outside of this debate, many have understood that despite these concerns, good sales have driven this business model. Now, there might be some room for concern for the retail performance of Black Ops 7 in the UK.
Christopher Dring recently mentioned that Black Ops 7 launched to worse retail performance than its rival, Battlefield 6. He also answered a question from a user, stating that retail sales were down 61% from Black Ops 6.
This is certainly a cause for concern to Microsoft. After the most expensive buy out deal in gaming history, costing upwards of $75.4bn, Microsoft will surely be attentive to how one of the most profitable gaming franchises of all time performs. Especially considering that Microsoft is reported to have raised internal targets for revenue from Xbox, this fall in sales could potentially lead to more drastic change if it is sustained.
So, do you think Call of Duty should deviate from their yearly release pattern? Feel free to comment your thoughts below.
