NetEase subsidiary Bad Brain Game Studios, which was spearheaded by Watch Dogs: Legion producer Sean Crooks, is getting shuttered alongside fellow subsidiary Fantastic Pixel Castle. This comes only two years after its founding and without it even releasing their first game, Midnight Riders.
Crooks shared the news on LinkedIn, alongside a sizzle reel showcasing footage of its now 86’d 1980s aesthetic action adventure project. From the sound of it, they attempted to find a new partner but nothing came to fruition.
From the footage, it seems like it would’ve been an interesting mishmash of combat and narratives as well as some sort of coming of age overarching story with a touch of fantasy thrown in for good measure. All those ideas sound like they would’ve clashed, but we’re sure Midnight Riders would’ve scratched an itch for a stylized modern-day open world action adventure.
