BioWare: There Are Just Too Many Games Coming Out

How many times have you said to yourself, "damn, too many games, too little money (and/or time)"? Well, take heart, because BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka agrees with you.

In speaking to Develop , the BioWare chief spoke a bit about what he finds disappointing in the video game industry today. And you know, it's extra interesting because we usually forget that game designers have to be well aware of the competing products, so they often have to play a lot of different titles themselves. Said Muzyka:

"There's too many games released. It's interesting, because it's very, very busy, it makes it very hard as a player to keep up. The releases clump up – even though that is changing a little bit.

For us, we have to play our games, play competitor's games, play other relevant games, and play the handful of games we just really want to play more of and finish. I try and play two-or three hours a night, but that's hard and it's not enough."

Muzyka did mention that his all-time favorite game might be the original System Shock and in fact, the team actually utilizes a fan website with patches so the aging title will continue to work on their laptops. But it's certainly cool to hear a developer side with the frustrated gamers who just can't seem to keep up. Of course, it's a matter of time; the holidays are always jam-packed but be wary of the first quarter…it's turning into a logjam, too.
