GC 2008: Heavy Rain Demo Coming, DLC Possible

It's the talk of the town. The official announcement came yesterday, we scrounged up more gameplay details today, and now, just in case you're still on the fence about this one, a demo will be headed our way.

According to Eurogamer, Quantic Dream founder and Heavy Rain director David Cage confirmed a playable demo will eventually come to the PlayStation Store. Very simply, he said- "Yes, of course, there will be a demo." However, due to the story-based gameplay, the studio must figure out a way to deliver a demo without spoiling any of the plot ahead of time. Cage added:

"We need to think about it, but I wouldn't want to spoil the story. We've spent a lot of time working on the story this time; we've worked with people from Hollywood, script writers, to really make it just right. And I think it's a very unusual story for a videogame, so I think people will be quite surprised."

As for downloadable content, Cage didn't confirm that but did hint at the possibility some time down the road. In this generation, gamers are always looking for demos, added freedom in terms of gameplay, and of course, extras to enhance the gameplay experience. This usually comes courtesy of downloadable content, but again, it could be tricky to figure out what kind of DLC Quantic could prepare for Heavy Rain .

"This is something it's really too early to talk about, but it's definitely a possibility," said Cage. "There's so many possibilities with this thing, because what matters now is just the story you want to tell. Do you have a good story to tell? Then you can do it, because this thing isn't specific to the series. You can tell any story with this interface, because it's entirely contextual."

Heavy Rain is scheduled to arrive some time next year, so perhaps we can hope for the demo in early 2009…? We'll keep you posted.
