We know that Call of Duty is the biggest name in video games, and arguably the biggest name in all of entertainment.
But when the numbers hit you right between the eyes, it's just staggering. Activision has released a CoD infographic that totals up the franchise's statistics since the release of Modern Warfare in 2007.
Since that time, more than 100 million people have played at least one game in the series; that's more than the population of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. Those 100 million people have logged over 25 billion hours of play time, which translates to about 2.85 million years…longer than humans have even been in existence. That's just plain ridiculous.
A grand total of 32.3 quadrillion shots have been fired, 31 billion Care Packages have been called in, and over 5 billion cars have been destroyed. That's 5 times the number of registered vehicles in the entire world. Does anyone else find all this disconcerting?
Call of Duty: Ghosts is scheduled to launch for current-generation systems on November 5, while the next-gen iterations are also slated for the holiday season. By the end of next generation, we won't even have big enough numbers for these stats.
